The Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering (EAG) 5th International Workshop on Supervisory Activities and Consultations with Private Sector took place in Kazan on 26-27 September 2019.
The main topic of the workshop was the use of public-private partnership tools to improve effectiveness of AML/CFT system.
Welcoming remarks to the participants came from President of the Republic of Tatarstan R. Minnikhanov, EAG Chairman Ms. Hao, Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Volga Federal District I. Panshin, Deputy Head of Rosfinmonitoring G. Bobrysheva, and EAG Executive Secretary S. Teterukov.
Representatives of supervision authorities from EAG member states and observer countries presented approaches to AML/CFT cooperation with private sector, examined the effectiveness of preventive measures and quality of suspicious transaction reports, as well as discussed the application of targeted financial sanctions and virtual asset sector regulation practice.
Presentations by leading Russian financial institutions – members of Compliance Council and representatives of academia, who shared with international community their experiences in implementation of FinTech and RegTech projects designed to increase effectiveness of customer due diligence procedures and identification of beneficial owners and suspicious customer activities to better manage the ML/TF risks, were of particular interest.
Participants endorsed the proposal to establish International Compliance Council, a discussion forum for the private sector of Eurasian region.
